Silence
by Stephanie Craft
I set out in search of you.
I climbed to the highest mountain.
I reached the top and called your name.
But still I couldn’t find you.
I set out to swim across the sea,
In search of something more.
I thought for certain I’d find you
But empty, I returned to shore.
I walked through rain
I walked through wind
I walked through snow and still
Although I walked so far my Lord
Alone I did remain.
Finally I stopped searching for you
Instead I sat alone, nothing did I do.
And suddenly in the silence
A whisper was coming through
It was your voice so silent
Coming from so near.
You were there inside me Lord,
But for all the noise, you I could not hear.
All this time Lord
Alone I thought I sought you.
But you were there in the silence,
Waiting for me to hear you.
No where do I need to go.
No one else do I need.
In the silence Lord, I can find you
And quietly rest with thee.
