This first one is of our church in Tono (city). Dad and Siri had the oppourtunity to worship with us in Japanese. Afterwards we had tea and sweets. The church is small but there were more people there that day than are in the picture,... but, you can see the Reverand of that church to the right of Rev. Yoshida.
After church we went to "Denshoen Folktale Village" where we had a traditional local meal.
After we had lunch we poked around Denshoen looked at some traditional crafts like silk weaving and dyeing and listened to some Japanese folktales. The stories were all in Japanese--so we understood very little but it was still really neat.
Afterwards, we went to "Kappa Buchi", the supposed location where the mythical "kappa" creatures lives Below you can see Mrs. Yoshida at Kappa Buchi.
Below is a picture of Fukusenji (Buddhist) Temple. It houses the largest wooden statue of Buddha in Japan.
After that, Reverand Yoshida and his wife had us all over to their house for tea and sweets.
Here's Rev. Yoshida's library:
Then, in the evening we went to Takata (town) to eat dinner at Musashi Inn. The owner of the inn is a very generous friend of ours and she wanted Dad and Siri to experience a real Japanese feast. It was amazing spread.
Dad tried everything that was offered to him ...including "natto" which is a goo of fermented soybeans which seems to be trapped in spiderwebs -- it is quite possibly the most frightening dish for foreigners here in Japan. Dad took not one but TWO bites. Everyone was pretty impressed.
OK,... that's all for now...
Love you,
Gabe and Steph
