Tebukuro (The Mitten) Violet's first Operetta

Yesterday, Gabe and I had the pleasure of watching Violet's first school play. It was originally supposed to be on March 3rd but because of the flu outbreak at her school it had to be cancelled. Since the school year is coming to a close, the teacher's rescheduled it, last minute for Monday morning. It worked out great because Gabe and I are done with classes and so we were able to leave our office for the morning to go and watch it. Her Jiji and Baba also came all the way from Tono to see it!

The kids worked so hard practicing and Violet has been singing the songs for weeks at home. She knew her part (and all the other parts too) so well. She performed the songs for us over and over and we delighted in watching her prepare.

Her role was to be one of the mice. She had to wear all grey for her costume. So we went to the 100 yen shop (like the dollar store) and bought a men's grey t-shirt and turned it into a little peasant dress. She had grey tights and a grey undershirt. She looked like the cutest little mouse!

They had the children lined up in rows and so it was hard to see her in the beginning of the performance but when her part came up, they line up side by side. We enjoyed watching her smile and sing along. She had a great time.

The best part of all though was seeing how happy she was that all four of us were there. She grinned from ear to ear. I know she felt special and loved. When it was over, we didn't get to go and talk to them. It was a normal school day so they ushered them back to their classrooms after their curtain call. She looked back at me and I could tell she was getting a little sad. I waved and smiled as big as I could and blew a kiss. Daddy blew kisses too. She smiled back and blew a kiss and we caught each other's kisses. She blew kisses the whole way as she walked out and didn't cry one tear. I was so happy for her that she could feel strong and soothe herself, knowing that we loved her and would be back at the end of the day. It was a great moment.

Here are some pics from the performance. I will try to upload a video soon.
